The Police...Reuniting?
There has been much speculation that my favorite band, The Police are planning on reuniting to sing at the Grammy's this year. Apparently they have holed themselves in a studio in North Vancouver to practice.
I'm very happy. I was able to see Sting, by himself, perform in Edmonton with Annie Lennox as the opening act. A pretty good 1-2 punch if you ask me.
Nevertheless, it's one thing to have Sting perform Police hits such as King of Pain, Every Breath You Take, and Roxanne with background singers and a whole band behind him, and something totally different to hear it being performed by the original band. The original three piece band that brought new wave music in the early 80s. That would be something special.
However, what really annoys me is when I hear and read these things on tv/radio about how the greatest band of the early 80s and late 70s is going to reunite. They start spouting off a whole bunch of stats and start talking about their favorite songs by the band. The funny thing is that in Edmonton, the Police are rarely played on the classic rock station KRock or The Bear. I'm not sure how they can pretend to think that they are a good band when they are rarely played. Instead, we hear Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" at least once a day. Sting is featured on the Adult Easy Listening Station more frequently than would you hear The Police on a classic rock station.
I don't even know what my point is. Basically, I just hate that all of these people are pretending to love the Police when I don't think they ever did.
Regardless, I hope they start touring soon!
