Thoughts on Halloween

Well Halloween has come and gone three days ago and I feel that there are some things that need to be discussed.

1. House go owned in two ways. First of something called the 'World Series' was on Fox, it somehow took precedence over one of the two television shows I watch on Tuesdays (the other being Gilmore Girls). For what was probably a month I was left a little empty not seeing many medical ethical queries being broken at a blistering rate. On Tuesday I got to see House back to his antics. Perhaps the best part of the episode though was at the end. House ends up getting arrested while riding his motorcyle while intoxicated and in posession of narcotics he did not have a prescription for, by a patient of his who he stuck a thermometer up his butt for...well who knows what house was actually thinking. It was nice to see that somebody got the better of House. However, the show really only develops stories for a couple of episodes so it's likely that this little charade will be a mere blip on his EKG. So perhaps in the end, the House always wins.

2. I think that Halloween has changed its meaning. Perhaps this is because I have gotten older but I'm more inclined to believe that it's not the case. It's not for the kids anymore and the object is not to be the scariest you can be but the skankiest you can be. It has gotten away from the kids because of the progression to being all about the 'skank' but because candy is not just limited to Halloween now. If you look at grocery stores, school vending machines, and waistlines, it is clear that the access to certain foods has not been a problem. So the biggest reason for kids to enjoy halloween, the access to candy, is not as big of a draw. I also grew up in the late 80s and early 90s. Our generation seems to love talking about the memories of our childhood. This thus creates a longing to relive halloween...why adults like it. However, we are also smart enough to realize that we can't have it like it used to be. Getting candy from houses is just not cool when you are in your 20s. So you put the adult spin on halloween....the skankiness.

3. The DDS class of 2009 should have won the dance-off. If you don't believe me, check out the DDS2009 link on the blog. How could thrust-a-conning cowboys and saloon girls not make a lasting impression?
