Pronger a Duck
Well it's now official: Chris Pronger has been traded to the Anaheim (less Mighty) Ducks.
I'm sad and glad. I'm glad because it's over and the Oilers and Oilers fans and myself can move on. We got Joffrey Lupul and perhaps future good players for him. Lupul, a Fort Saskatchewan native that my mom taught and was my cousin's drinking buddy in Medicine Hat when playing for the Tigers, proved himself to be valuable during the regular season and the playoffs. As well, Lowe has gotten the biggest monkey off his back and can now concentrate on signing his other big names that he needs to resign.
However, I'm sad that, in some respects we got so little in return. Only Lupul is the only NHLer in the deal that we got. The other things are draft picks....and we know how good the Oilers are at drafting players. As well, we still haven't figured out how we are going to fill Pronger's spot on the D-Line. It's hard to fill 30 minutes a game and even harder to do so when the options on the market are quite limited. Are we going to have to trade for another D-man or is Lowe going to pretend that we are going to be okay on D with Pronger's absence?
I guess we will have to wait and see what Lowe has up his sleeve for now.
For now, I'm pessimistic and a little sad.

I know it's none of our business, but part of me is demanding that we be told what these 'personal reasons' were that pushed Pronger to demand a trade. I mean, he signs for five years, so it's not like he had an aversion to the town before getting there, so what happened? Is his family in St. Louis? I guess Anaheim is a bit closer, bue I can't buy that that distance was the reason. I know it's probably something understandable, but I want to know what it is. I'm afraid the day he gets back into Edmonton as a Duck will be a boo-fest if the fans don't get an answer.
