For those who love conspiracy theories...

I suggest that you read up on what I have to say.

With the movie Flight 93 that came out on Friday, I was reminded of an e-mail I got a couple of summers ago from a co-worker.

United Flight 93 was the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania and the movie is about how passengers on the flight were able to fight the terrorists and force the plane down and miss the attended target.

There are many conspiracies I'm sure over 9/11. I likely don't even know about 99.99% of them.

The coworker at the time sent me a video link to a website. The only one I have heard about is American Airlines Flight 77. The conspiracy theory states that it wasn't an airplane that hit the Pentagon, but rather a missile or a few missles. When I saw that video, I was quite shocked and didn't know what to think at the time. I didn't want to believe it. Furthermore, the internet is a dumping ground for this type of stuff. On occasion, I have thought about the theory but there has been very little from mainstream media (actually none) so I just figured that it was just an internet thing. It has been nearly two years since I looked it up on the internet. I found the same video I saw nearly two years ago.

Today; however, I looked at a whole bunch of articles. I tried to evaluate sources both pro/con on the conspiracy theory and I would say are both unreliable. The claims each make stretch the facts and take leaps.

Like almost everyone in North America, I know where I was when I heard of September 11th. From home that morning, I saw the second plane hit the WTC and saw smoke coming our of the Pentago before having going to school. I remember watching CNN that night, wishing I had Picture in Picture to be able to watch more than one channel at once.

To comment on the conspiracy theory, I will say that I did watch a lot of news about these events since I was very shocked/amazed/scared. I can't say that I remember much after September 11th about the plane that hit the Pentagon or Flight 93 for that matter. It seemed that it was hit, the mess was cleaned up and then life moved on. The majority of the news was centered on the attack on the WTC.

I still don't want to believe it. Governments all over the world will stretch the truth to try to convince their citizens of things. Americans know this very well. However, if this theory were true, it would suggest that in a certain sense, the United States attacked itself. A nation would have difficulty accepting that fact. I don't even want to believe it was true. On the other hand, maybe that's what makes conspiracy theories so alluring. They allow for the impossible.

Regardless of what did or did not happen, the world was changed that day forever. I can only hope that something of that magnitude never ever happens again.
