Roloson REALLY sucks
Well here we go again...the OIlers are left with another lame duck goalie. Our fourth goalie this year and yet we still haven't found a good one.
I heard all the critics say things like "Well look at Roloson's save percentage...with the amount of shots that the Oilers allow per game, it will be a perfect fit". Well I have a newsflash for you guys...he ain't. These were the people who were overlooking his terrible record of 6-17-2 when he came over here. Also, apparently most of the games that he lost were one goal games...the same sorts of games that the Oilers always seem to play.
I think tonight against Vancouver is a perfect example. The Oilers held the Canucks to 19 shots the whole game INCLUDING OT...and he still managed to let 3 in. In the two shootouts that Roloson has been in with the Oilers he has let in 5 of six shots. The overtime game against Columbus, he totally mishandled the puck. So in total he is 1-3 in OT.
I'm not sure if the Oilers can pretend any longer that he is any good. At first it was the "well he has to settle in". I'll give him that one, except for the fact that he's not the only one who has to go through these things. There are tons of hockey players that experience the same thing. He is constantly falling over, he gives up terrible rebounds and rarely can he seem to find the puck.
This is the biggest problem for the Oilers. They rarely have 'stinkers' of games. Tuesday would be a perfect example of a stinker. They talked about playing a more balanced game with less penalties. They did that today and completely bounced back from Tuesday. Never once this year can I say that the Oilers have won a hockey game solely by having their keeper steal one. It just doesn't seem possible. The first goal he let in was terrible and on the third one from Naslund, he wasn't even covering the short side.
I'm just pissed.
The worst part about this whole Roloson thing is that just before he came over to the Oilers, Conklin had a string of starts. Not only did we win those games but he actually played better than he did the whole season. Why change?
Above all, after this game, the Oilers are 6-8 in shootouts. Five of those wins were by Mike Morrison...and he was stupidly put on waivers and is now a part of the Ottawa Senators. Markannen's only win was in the first week of the season against Vancouver. They can't ever play in shootouts again!

The choice to get Roloson really did surprise me. I don't see how he's really 'proven' himself in his career. I think he had one decent (alright, I should probably say 'good') season with Calgary sometime when Churchill was talking about the Iron Curtain to college students. With Biron, Cujo, and maybe even Raycroft who won a freakin' award in the mix, I don't see why they went this way other than they didn't have to mess with the roster. Samsonov has been producing at least, although that wasn't really what we were lacking.
Hmm, well, some great saves from Roloson tonight in the shootout. Not eating my words yet though. Get us into the playoffs in good position, win some big games there, maybe even win a round or two. Get us the Cup? I'll shine his skates myself.
