Dentistry Cough
Ever heard of Kennel Cough? That's what dogs get when they get to spend a family's vacation in a kennel. I'm not sure what the actual 'bug' is but the dogs, being in a small area with other dogs somehow seem to get sick. Well now I actually just yahooed it and it turns out that it's some sort of tracheo bronchitis. Anyway point is, it is something that you get while in close quarters.
The same thing seems to be afflicting our class. Not a week goes by when somebody new comes down with a cough. Everyone seems to have the same symptoms. A persistent phlegmy cough that takes weeks to go away. Interestingly enough, people don't necessarily describe themselves as sick. They feel fine, but just have a terrible cough.
I have just named it Dentistry Cough
I've personally been afflicted twice by this nasty disease. I've been able to continue playing for my soccer team and when I was running at the Butterdome I was able to do it just fine.
So what can be done about it? In the 160 or so that are in my class of med & dent students, the dent students all sit together in a cohesive unit. I'm sure that this has something to do with it. Not only do we sit together in small quarters but we also sit there for many hours a day.
I think the best solution would be to not have to sit in that class so long. Not only would our class as a whole be healthier and as a result more productive, it would also mean that we woudn't have to sit through so many pointless lectures.
