Tuesday Theory
As promised, I'm delivering what I'd like to call the Tuesday Theory.
Many people aren't morning people. In fact I'm sure that most of the population if given the opportunity would choose to sleep in if they had the choice. I don't have that big of a problem getting up in the morning but it always seems that Tuesday is the hardest day to do so. The reason, is because of the Tuesday Theory.
Most people get a sufficient amount of sleep on the weekends....probably nine to eleven hours which is more than the recommended 8 hours. The long sleeps on the weekend are to catch up for lost sleep during the week. These long sleeps have two important consequences. For two days of the week, the body is staying up longer than normal. Nobody wants to waste a Saturday night or a Friday night going to bed at 11. So people stay up longer. The consequence of this is that not only do you sleep longer but since you went to bed later it also means that you get up much later. Falling asleep at 2 and sleeping 9-10 hours means that you are getting up between 11-12 in the morning.
During the week you are likely to have to get up much earlier. For us dent students that means getting up between 6 and 7. That is like a 5 hour difference.
SO, after two days of that your body becomes accustomed to sleeping longer and getting up later. However, Monday comes along quicker than a thunderstorm. Sleeping in Sunday morning means that you aren't tired when you need to go to bed Sunday night. This means that you don't fall asleep when you should. Combine that with having to getting up early means that Sunday night equals one shitty sleep.
However, Monday morning you feel tired but you don't feel THAT tired because you have had two days where you charged up the batteries.
Then comes Tuesday morning.
Getting up Tuesday morning is far worse than Monday. The lost sleep that you experienced now catches up to you. It's far worse than a Monday. Next week, try it, and you'll see what I mean.
Now if only I could convince the faculty to institute mandatory naps Tuesday afternoons.
