Coldplay Sheet Music
Coldplay and I go way back. At first we weren't the greatest fans of one another. They first introduced themselves with "Yellow" and I must say that to me the song seemed quite uninspiring, with the video even more so. I mean the words weren't synched properly to the music and to make it worse who wants to see a skinny man walking on a beach with nobody else around him?
So after that, the band was not able to impress me for quite some time. They tried a little harder with "In My Place" on their follow-up album "A Rush of Blood to the Head" but still I wasn't going to give them the time of day. However, then in the spring of 2003 they offered me something special in "Clocks". It was on almost everyday when I was driving, waking up in the morning, or studying for exams in the evening. At first I liked the song before I even knew it was Coldplay. Then I when I found out that it was Coldplay I was amazed that such a band could come up with music such as this.
With that in mind, I decided to purchase the album. After getting to know them better, I decided that "In my Place" was not so bad after all and that I needed their 1st album Parachutes. Our friendship has changed ever since I got to know them better.
It was a dark two years for me waiting for another Coldplay album. Chris Martin was off making babies named Apple and here I was left to study with the same two Coldplay albums that I'd listened to many many times.
I got word that their new album was going to be released this summer and I was off the wall. (I love X and Y but to those who are Coldplay traditionalists, just let it go...he's happy and that's what really matters...that's why the music is so much more upbeat).
Then about 2 months ago, I was watching VH1 storytellers on Much Music Music during CSI commercials and Coldplay was on it. For those who don't know, this is a show where a group performs their latest album and their greatest songs all the while entertaining the ga-ga crowd with little anecdotes of how/where they wrote some of their songs. That part wasn't so interesting. What was interesting to me was how many of the songs featured the piano.
Now that seems a little weird. How can you listen to a lot of Coldplay and not notice that? Good question. Anyway, I decided that since I hadn't played the piano for 6 years and I wanted to do a bit of piano that I would get some Coldplay sheet music. So, as usual, I searched for purchases on ebay. It turned out that I could actually get something cheaper on Amazon. The book features some of the better songs from their first two albums.
Which now brings me to my revelation.
Playing some of these songs are not easy. In fact it's a challenge. I believe that it's partly exacerbated by my 6 year void of not playing the piano but it's also the fact that Clocks has 4 flats in it. Playing the music made me realize that writing music is a gift. You need to write the music, play the music properly (that includes the right notes), and learn how to play the instrument. As well, if you are a huge band like Coldplay, that also means doing all of that in front of thousands of people. That's INCREDIBLE, actually.
As I struggle through songs like "Trouble" and "The Scientist" I am amazed at the talents of musicians. Should I be envious of should I let the experts of their field do their thing?
