My Knee Bump/Lump

Today I was working out at the Y doing alternative arm chest presses while lying down on a excercise ball when I noticed something odd. To the direct right of my right knee bone, it appears that I have a bump on my knee. It kinda surprised me since my knee hasn't really hurt in the past while and I've been running over 4km once or twice a week, playing soccer and occasionally when I have time, working out.

So then I decided to take a personal history of myself...something I learned from patient centered care. It doesn't really hurt and I have totally full function of my knee at any force and in any direction. Nobody in my family has ever had a knee bump. I haven't been taking any new medications nor have I indulged myself with illecit drugs. I started school in late August but I don't think that this thing on my knee has anything to do with stress of starting dentistry.

The bump itself is slightly mobile. From that I mean that it can be moved a bit when I push on it. I can squish it and it doesn't hurt and I can push on it. It is fairly solid but I would describe it as softer than a flexed leg muscle...and anybody who knows me knows that my leg muscle is very tight ;). (Only I likely found that hilarious). I'd say that it's about 2cm long and 2cm wide.

So yeah I don't know what it could be caused by. All that I know is that sometimes when I go to the Y I would go on the elliptical and I would only go for about 10 minutes just to warm up. I haven't gone on one in over a week or so. Anyway sometimes my knee would hurt where the bump was but I just chalked that up to working my body hard. As well, it wasn't like that pain was only limited to the right knee. I felt it in the left knee to but not as bad.

My plan is to skip the elliptical machine for now and see if it get better. I'll wait a week before consulting a doctor.

I think I'm paranoid because in our problem based learning class we had a woman who had a 2cm mobile lump in her breast that turned out to be a grade and stage II ductal cancer. The lump was also mobile. I guess I should just check my lymph nodes now. Unfortunately I don't know how to do that.

Here's to it getting better!

LOL, the vagueness of your comment to match with the vagueness of my post on my blog is wonderful, I love it.
