Hypocrite? + Road Trip
Does lamenting the fact that I've never experienced a 'long weekend' about a month ago and then go on a wicked road trip this long weekend and brag to everyone at work about how much fun and how great it was make me a hypocrite?
Either way, I honestly don't care. I mean the word hypocrite really holds no meaning for me since about Grade 9 when my French teacher used the word to describe every action that the class was doing as hypocritical.
Anyway, as I'm sure all of you are wondering, I'll let you know about my trip. Jackie, Mike and I departed from Edmonton Saturday morning. It was basically an Alberta road trip. Our first stop was in Drumheller where we went to the Royal Tyrell Museum and the Hoodoos. And just to let all of you know...there are people from the museum who are paid (I hope) to sit at the Hoodoos and tell everyone that they are there to protect the Hoodoos so nobody is allowed to walk on them (which I'd like to think is obvious). I can't believe we got lectured for something like that when we were obviously walking on the paths!
Then we got to Lethbridge late that afternoon. There we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. For dinner, it was the first of many highlights...we ate dinner in a water tower. Yes, I kid you not. The restaurant called Ric's Grill (of which there are 4 in the Edmonton area) is there and the water tower offers up a great view of the city. It was quite worth it to go there.
The next day after surviving breakfast, we visited the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. I learned a great deal there and it showed me that plants and landscaping can be beautiful even without flowers.
From there we departed to Calgary where we stayed at the awesomest hotel called the Sheraton Suites Eau Claire. The room and service was incredible. All I can say is thanks to Jackie for having her dad work at Esso that enables us to rent the room at a fraction of the cost. Once I make an effort to put pictures up I will do it so that all can see it. The food was even amazing there...Warm complimentary breakfasts for being an "Executive Lounge Member"!
Sunday, we went to the Calgary Zoo where we braved 30+ weather for over three hours to see the many animals and incredible plants. I was a Calgary Zoo virgin and after seeing it for the first time I want to experience it again!
Then on the way home, there was the obligatory stop at the Donut Mill in Red Deer. Yum...
Well after reading this over again to check for any obvious grammatical errors (of which I found one or two), I'll chalk my name by hypocrite. Oh well, it was a great trip and I'm glad that I was able to do it with the people I did.
