Clothing Sizes

Those who have heard me talk about my clothing size theory will have already heard this rant.
Those who haven't will be enlightened by what I have to tell you.

Have women noticed out there that the sizes they used to wear simply don't fit them anymore? You know how those 8s you used to wear don't fit except for 10s? To make it worse, it always seems that the women in magazines don't have any problems wearing any of the clothes that they want to. It is not the media & hollywood who are perpetuating an unrealistic portrait of the female body. Rather, it is the clothing industry itself.

Sure celebs are all buffed up and tight, but it is because of the fashion industry. You see, at stores a pair of size 0 jeans and a size 20 both cost the same amout to buy. That seems fair. I mean after all they are the same product. However, have you looked at it from the manufacturers point of view? The size 20 jeans have much more material than the size 0. As a consequence, the company receives more money when they sell a smaller pair of clothing just based on material costs.

So what better way to indoctrinate normal citizens into thinking that smaller is better and thus save the clothing companies money? Use celebs of course! Everyone, and especially now, has access to pics of celebs and everyone can see how they all seem to be thin and tight. The industry has used them as a tool to save money for themselves.

It's a cruel cruel world

It's definitely an oft-neglected point. Everyone becomes so focused on the model or celeb that they forget that this image that has them so concerned is hocking clothing (for the most part). Mass appeal is such a loathesome thing, this idea that we're all so mindless enough to follow what people tell us to. But none of us are immune...gonna go listen to my iPod now.

Funny.... I think clothing sizes are actually being labelled SMALLER than they used to be! Still cost a lot, but I think they want to make us feel good about fitting into that size 4 -- after all, we buy more if we feel attractive!

i don't consider myself to be a big person, but when all the women i work with is of the belief i should be no larger than a size 10, and ALL the new clothes i bought are size 14...
