Crazy Workout People at the Y

First of all, I'd like to apologize for not having a new message posted. I'm sure the maybe 5 people who bother to read this are happy that I will have posted something new so that you don't have to read about anymore medical tests.

Anyway

So back in February I got this thing from a silent auction. It was a two week pass for the YMCA. It came with a fitness assessment but they were ridiculously unorganized so I just ended up getting an Individual Program set up for myself which in the long run will work better for myself. At any rate, while I was working out there with Jackie we both independently noticed something about many of the guys who were working out there.

To put it simply is this: Though you may be much buffer than I, it really annoys me that you guys can't do any of the weightlifting properly. For example, I saw this one guy that was curling like 45 pound dumbells. The sad thing was that he was really swinging his arms into it. He even had to bend his back and everything just to make sure that he was able to do it. He wasn't even close to doing it properly. So this begs questions:

1) What is their motivation for doing these improper workouts? Just to hang out at the Y and hope that some retarded women is going to be there to see you not do the stretch properly and somehow swoon over you?
2) Most guys who are actually buff will laugh and know that you actually can't curl that much so they are just going to laugh and know that deep down you won't be even close to that strong so who are you trying to kid?

And finally for all those really intense workout guys:
1) Why are you working out? A girl won't be impressed with somebody 5'5 and it as wide as they are tall. It just doesn't work that way.

Other than those people, I must say that it feels great to workout. I'd only done it at home before in the comfort of my basement and not in a gym in front of many many people. People seem to mind their own business and don't outwardly show that their displeasure of people's lack of strength. The workout staff also seems to be intelligent and they actually seem to care about your progress.

Hopefully I will end up making the most of my two weeks!

Hey Dave. I've been going to the gym for about 2 years now and it definitely took me a while to get technique down to the point where I was reasonably sure I wasn't hurting myself. Dumbell presses are definitely easy to get wrong if you go too much too soon I think. I keep my legs elevated now, it helps to keep my back in full contact with the bench. I remember the first time I hit the bench, I was flailing all over the place, but I'm reasonably sure I'm doing them correctly now. 55 pound dumbells, if that means anything.
